As we all know it
rains in Wales but just across the border in Shropshire it doesn't. This
irrefutable fact was clearly demonstrated when you compare the summer party
in Ironbridge with the Dragon Raid in Wales. We met at
Wylie
and Holland at Telford in lovely warm and sunny weather and set off on the
long journey of 3 miles to Ironbridge. The journey passed quickly!
On
arrival at Ironbridge we were met by the sight of over 500 Triumph's lazing
around Enguinity or enjoying the attractions of Ironbridge itself. Us
'locals' did not need to explore the charms of Ironbridge so went
straight to Enginuity to see the Triumph presentations. The attractions
provided proved to be a little disappointing. The Heritage Hall only had
Simon's Daytona, an X-75 and two old Triumphs and the only other stalls were
clothing stalls - although it has to be said that
Wylie
and Holland were doing Triumph customers very special deals and had some
good quality stock, so no complaints there (no wonder that they seemed to be
busy!).
The
Valamoto team were there and a presentation was done to the Valamoto team
for their stunning TT success. Bruce Ansty was very modest in his speech
about his success and was then given a surprise when Ross Clifford, from
Triumph, presented him the keys to his winning Daytona as thanks for the
race win. The presenter, whose name slips me, was absolutely brilliant
and
held everyone's attention completely EXCEPT ONE SIMON CARTER. This month's
competition is to guess just what Simon was taking a picture of when the
presentations were being made. Click on the photo for a better look.
The
guy from Valamoto, on the left, is distinctly not amused!!!!
After the presentations people
disappeared into Ironbridge. Those who stayed for the evening were treated
to an evening meal with live entertainment, although Enginuity was a bit big
for around 140 people.
In
the morning our pack showed those who stayed over just how beautiful
Shropshire is with a trip over the Long Mynd and beyond. Yes most people got
lost but who cares when the weather was so nice and the scenery so
wonderful. We finally arrived at Ludlow and those who congregated outside
the castle produced something that came as a great surprise. I wonder how
this RAT sign came to appear in Ludlow? Can anyone solve the mystery? The
Wylie and Holland pack did a great job looking after members and we had
Richard, Geoff and Graham at the front, Brian and Rob finding lunch for the
middle order when they got lost and Reg doing a fantastic job as black
marker.
